The Birth of Sliced Bread

Just a short 86 years ago, Otto Rohwedder created a machine to slice loaves of bread thus, creating SLICED BREAD! The first sliced loaves were sold on this day, July 7^th, 1880 although they took a while to catch on. Bakers were skeptical that consumers would not like sliced bread and feared that it would become stale faster.

Luckily, this was not the case and we can now enjoy our sandwiches with ease! The original machine included multiple steel blades to slice the loaves into 1 inch pieces. It was one of those simple inventions that revolutionized everything, and we are grateful for it!
